DIRECTION OF TRANSITION PLATES

SETTING PROCEDURE FOR CHANGE OF DIRECTION TRANSITION PLATES: 20 DEG BELT CONVEYORS

Change of Direction Rollers

BACKGROUND:

These plates were introduced as a preference to knock out rollers – the plates being chosen because small envelopes and poly bags were getting under the knock out rollers. While transition plates cannot prevent some extremely thin loads getting caught, the lower they are installed the fewer instances of this will arise.

This procedure is for fitting the revised narrower design of transition plates to the 20 deg Belt
Conveyors numbers L5.2, L6.2, L7.2 & L8.2 at the Preston site. These transition plate assemblies are
designed to fit lower in between the Change of Direction Rollers than the currently installed design.

The transition plates are designed to fit as below.

Install and Set Up Procedure:

Refer to the drawing above and Conveyor User Manual supplied for further information but the basic procedure is as follows:

Isolate and lock off the conveyor to be worked on.

Remove the undersheet guarding around the underside of the change of direction rollers.

Remove the existing infill plate assembly (by removing the two outer most screws) and the two 90 degree brackets fitted to the inside of the conveyor.

Measure the inside width of the conveyor (nominally 1012mm) in the area where the transition plate is to be fitted, and if required, remove material from each end of the 1015mm long top plate (item 4 on above drawing) to ensure a good fit up to the inside of the conveyor side frame.

The transition plate (item 4) should be assembled to item 2 using screws (item 5) fitted to the central 6 holes.

Fit the new 90 degree brackets (item 1) to the bearing bolts on the conveyor side frame, leaving the fixing bolts slightly loose at this stage, and then fit the Transition plate assembly (items 4, 2 & 5) from above to the top of 90 degree brackets item 1, using 2 off screws item 5.

It will now look like this from below.

Leave the two nuts securing each of the 90 degree brackets (item 1) loose, and let the transition
plate plastic top assembly rest on the two belts. Then, on each side of the top plate, insert a credit
card (or laminated paper sheet) between the plastic top plate and the belt surface (see red arrows in
diagram below) Run the card along the width of the belt to give a credit cards thickness clearance
and then tighten up the nuts to set in this height position.

Re-fit undersheets and un-isolate the conveyor ready for use.

Run the conveyor to check for successful installation.
